With a cup of tea in my hand, I stood all alone looking at the Gulmohar in our garden. A four-year chubby plump girl came running into our garden followed by a nine-year-old fair girl in red frock. With the bamboo stick of master Shivcharan, didi was chasing me. I had spoiled her geography project. Stealthily sneaking into her room in an attempt to lay hands on her poster colours, accidentally all colours spilled on her project. Trying to keep out of her reach, I started climbing the Gulmohar. The more she neared, the more I hastened. Being careless, I faltered down and injured my elbow. Didi rushed towards me shouting for dettol. She carried me to the small fish tank and started cleaning the wound. Ramcharan handed her the antiseptic bottle. Large drops of tears rolled down my pink cheeks not because of the wound, but because of the dettol bottle in her hand. She hushed me. Well aware of my fear, she distracted me with the tortoise and the hare story. I could not make out when did she apply that antiseptic liquid on my wounds and dressed it. Putting my arms around her, I said, “Didi…I am sorry. I did not want to spoil your things. Are you still angry?” She smiled back and said “not anymore.” From first lesson on alphabets to the wonderful children games, she taught me every thing. She introduced me to school, took me to nearby park and helped me in my lessons. And during Sundays lying for hours under the gulmohar shade indulging in her exotic tales about kings and queens I will forget even exam worries. Life was wonderful because she was there to hold me if ever I faltered.

But every thing changed so dramatically and so soon. Now there is tears not only in my eyes but in every one's eye,.............di every one misses your soft consoling hands. They say that only body gets destroyed but the soul remains alive. How much of it is true I do not know, but I wish it to be true. I do not know where is heaven or hell or if such things exist . All I wish is that wherever you may be may god's grace be with you . Didi I miss you a lot..........oh how i wish........I could know if you are listerning or not. Suddenly a white pegion landed on the terrace with a gulmohar bud in its beak.
